An Epic Hero’s Journey

Tales forgotten, bones long buried, that which is shrouded in darkness…
Our production of Beowulf was a collaboration with many artists - including
Nathaniel Justiniano, inkBoat, and Rova Saxophone Quartet - to explore these themes of shadow and light.to explore these themes of shadow and light. This bone mask was one of many elements that helped to unearth a powerful past, memories from our collective unconscious. Artist Yoshi Asai created a beautiful wearable mask that created a soundscape all its own with the jingling of bones. Shinichi Iova-Koga brought the piece to life in performance, haunting audiences with a lingering unease.
