Music concert from 2-3pm

Join We Players for a festive afternoon in the famed Shakespeare Garden in Golden Gate Park! Rejoin Odysseus on his epic journey home with Music Director Charlie Gurke’s swingin’ score from our 2012 production of The Odyssey, staged across Angel Island State Park. Charlie’s 6 piece jazz ensemble “Gurkestra” will carry us through new arrangements of these jazzy tunes - drift with us on currents of sound as the honey light of afternoon douses the gorgeous garden. Blankets, folding stools, and camping chairs will be provided. You may bring your own seat if you wish!

Featuring:
Charlie Gurke - baritone saxophone/ compositions
Kristen Strom - alto saxophone
Jamie Dubberly - trombone
Henry Hung - trumpet
Luke Kirley - tuba
Eric Garland - drums

Policies & prepardedness

PARKING: Limited street parking is available and this part of Golden Gate Park is very busy on weekends! Please be sure to plan plenty of time to find parking and to walk to the garden. Remember not to leave any valuables (or for that matter, anything visible) in your car. Alternatively, park in the garage below de Young or the Academy of Science. Or, explore public transit options.

COVID-19: Physical distancing is not currently mandated and there is plenty of space and fresh air in the garden! This event is completely outdoors and masks are optional. If circumstances dictate a change in guidelines, attendees will be notified by email.

WHAT TO WEAR: It’s always best carry warm layers with you! While we expect a lovely sun splashed garden for our musical fête, it is San Francisco and the fog can roll in anytime. Bring a sun hat and sunglasses as well as your cozy extra layers.

SEATING: We’ll provide folding stools (with and without backs), camping chairs, and lawn cushions. You are welcome to bring an extra cushion or even your own chair - we’ll help you position it within our seating arrangement for best sight lines for all audience members.

Per Golden Gate Park’s Permitted Event policies, please note that we cannot provide food or drink in the garden.
