Strawberry Hill ,
Golden Gate Park,
San Francisco

Situated on an island in Stow Lake, Strawberry Hill (named for its native wild berries) is the highest point in Golden Gate Park. The park and Strawberry Hill in particular were prominent landmarks in 1967’s Summer of Love as thousands of young people journeyed to the city, encouraged by Scott McKenzie’s “San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair)” and Harvard professor Timothy Leary’s call to “Turn on, tune in, drop out.”
