Shakespeare & Company weekend intensive, led by Dennis Krausnik in SF, May 10-12
We Players’ Artistic Director Ava Roy grew up training with Shakespeare & Company in The Berkshires. While We Players has a unique aesthetic and process, many of our foundational practices have grown out of the Shakespeare & Company methodology. This workshop is neither hosted nor led by We Players or Ava, but is an opportunity to connect with some shared vocabulary. We Players highly recommends this workshop, led by Shakespeare & Company’s Director of Training, Dennis Krausnik.
From Shakespeare & Company’s website:
The Weekend Intensives are designed to meet the needs of actors who seek an introduction to Shakespeare & Company’s training methods, and an opportunity to re-awaken and revitalize their relationship to Shakespeare’s text.
Friday 7pm-10pm: an introduction to Shakespeare & Company’s aesthetic and an opportunity for the actors to shift gears and focus on their work through a series of exercises involving voice, body and memory work.
Saturday 10am-10pm: focuses on the actor’s individual voice and experiences, which are incorporated into a monologue that the actor has prepared for the class.
Sunday 10am-4pm: moves more vigorously through the voice and body work, with the actors reconnecting with Shakespeare’s text, revisiting their monologues and exploring how the structure of the verse might influence character and performance.
Adequate time for meal breaks is given, though participants are responsible for their own meals.
The workshops are limited to 15 participants.
TUITION $300. Click here to for more information and to apply.

WE NEWS:
2012 was an exciting year! We received our 501(c)3 status, and produced two full-scale shows in two dramatic Bay Area locations. We Players is currently exploring myths and researching histories of the San Francisco Bay as we begin to develop a new work, in partnership with San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park. And we are also pulling out our notes, starting to engage our creative team, and otherwise bubbling our cauldron for our first remount – Macbeth at Fort Point, which will be performed in September – October 2013. We have exciting staff, volunteer and intern opportunities for all projects and company operations.
