Canciones del Mar: Songs of the Sea

  • San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park 499 Jefferson Street San Francisco CA

Our fourth annual concert aboard the 1886 tall ship Balclutha!

Five highly-acclaimed Bay Area latin musicians will share songs about the sea, boats, love, and life, drawn from the folkloric and popular music traditions of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Curated by Music Director Charlie Gurke

Featuring
Diana Gameros - Voice & Guitar
Edgardo Cambon - Voice & Percussion
Camilo Landau - Voice & Guitar
Saul Sierra - Bass
Charlie Gurke - Saxophone

Our fourth annual Canciones del Mar concert will feature NEW elements... We'll be inviting both musicians and guests to explore the Balclutha in her entirety at the begining of our evening. Let the sounds of the guitar, percussion, saxophone, bass, and voices - mingled with the full sensory experience of the San Francisco Bay - guide you on an exploration of the ship's various decks, cabins, and holds. The evening will culminate in the shelter deck for a set of new and old songs about boats, the ocean, sea creatures, and more.

* Ticket purchase includes a CD of the live recording of our 2014 Canciones del Mar *

As part of We Players’ five year cooperative agreement with San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, we collaborate with a wide range of artists, creating work from diverse vantage points in a variety of media as an exercise in exploring the many layers of story within the site. We aim to provide multiple points of access and connection to both the park and our practice.
